Imagine
Our view of God is too small. Way too small. I don’t know about you, but when I read the bible I see a tremendously big God. One who created the universe, from stars to atoms. The big and the small and all the details in between. The one who created colors and emotions. Beauty and excitement. Everything our senses can enjoy and our mind can fathom originates from Christ himself, the very image of God. The same one who parted the sea, made a fish swallow a man, fed an entire nation in the desert for 40 years, and who rained down fire from the sky to display his power. That is the God who many claim to follow, some claim to know, and very few actually represent.
Take a moment to imagine what it would look like if that God were to walk the Earth today! What would it look like? What would happen? People would be healed, dead men would live, demons would flee, and creation would worship. God’s glory would be on display permanently. Lives would be eternally changed. People would understand their purpose and begin to walk in their true identity and authority as children of this God. Evil would rise and fight back, but be unable to overcome these warriors of light.
So why is it that this God doesn’t seem to exist anymore? Why do these great things not happen? Is it really because God isn’t there? Nope. Maybe he has changed? Not at all. But we sure have. Our view of God is way too small. If we claim to believe in this God and the truths laid out in scripture, its on us to be his hands and feet. Our lives should be the same as Jesus’ life. The very things that happened when Christ was walking on this Earth will be happening in our lives as we begin to fully comprehend and practice walking in the Spirit of our God.
Our identity is not in our sinful nature as many seem to proclaim. That is what we once were, held in bondage, but now we have been set free by Christ and have the ability to be filled by his Spirit. To walk with the authority and power as Sons and Daughters of the Most High God! We have been called to be His ambassadors, with God making His appeal to the world through us. If we do not accurately represent this God we claim to believe in, there is nobody else who can.
Walking through life as a mature and completed saint means becoming the full measure of the wholeness of Christ. The very image of the invisible God. And when that happens, the God who destroyed the walls of Jericho with trumpets and shouting, will also be the one who walks into countries closed to the gospel. The God who told crippled men to pick up their beds and walk, will be the one who heals people of cancer without the need for chemo.
All this will happen when we, as saints, learn to don the perfecting glory God has provided us in his son, Jesus Christ. (2 Cor 3:18)
